1. Consider
if you will require your water treatment program to control Legionella
Bacteria. The standard cooling tower water system treatment is designed
to maintain all cooling water equipment (chillers, heat exchangers,
tower) operating efficiently and protected from corrosion and deposits.
It is not designed to control Legionella Bacteria or to disinfect the
cooling water.
2. Implement
WATERCHEM treatment recommendations that are site specific for your
system to minimize colonization of Legionella Bacteria.
3. Maintain a daily record including:
4.
Inspect and record physical condition of cooling towers relative to
drift eliminators, fill, and fans. Particularly, eliminate algae, bio-deposits,
and drift. Record at least weekly on a log. (WATERCHEM will assist in
developing a log form.) 5.
Inspect the entire cooling water system and eliminate any stagnant
water, i.e., "dead legs", warm-up loops, etc.
6. Obtain specific effective
laboratory instructions to properly sample cooling water and have it
tested specifically for Legionella to insure the effectiveness of the
water treatment program. Utilize an independent laboratory specializing
in Legionella testing and specify the culture based procedure.
